Grand Prix Simulator retro game

Published by Codemasters in 1986 Grand Prix Simulator was a huge success - over 2 million copies were sold for different platforms, even though the game was not a simulator and had very little to do with Formula One racing. It is sort of racing game with top-down view, in which 2 players (or 1 vs computer) compete on the different tracks with same rules - 3 laps, who finished first wins. There oil puddles that cause a spin, there are several things to pick up along the way, but overall it is a very simple game that uses tracks that fit within the screen and does not have a lot to offer.

Most of the time try to slide through the corners, which is in fact quite nice, but have very little to do with Formula One racing, which the title suggests Grand Prix Simulator was simulating. In fact it is simple arcade game, well made, but not very impressive.

One of the interesting bits was the digital voice synthesis used to count down at the beginning of the race, which was not bad idea, but did not do much for the gameplay. Another interesting thing is that David Whittaker, one of the best music composers on 8-bit computers, was behind the music and sound effects in Grand Prix Simulator.
