Special edition of Anstoss / On the Ball football manager game, this time we take control of the national team while it is taking part in the World Cup qualifications.
While in original Anstoss / On The Ball games we were running a club in German or English league the World Cup Edition concentrates on the national team that takes part in the World Cup qualifications and, hopefully, in the final tournament.
Comparing to original games we have less options, which is obviously part of the main theme - in national team there are no stadium options, sponsors, transfers, training progress, etc. Instead we can watch our rivals or organize course to train the team. That is unfortunately it - life of national team manager is hardly exciting one.
But if we do get to the World Cup tournament the game picks up - the atmosphere changes, we have to prepare every day schedule for the players to keep them in good shape, well rested, focused, keep the fans and media happy, adapt to the climate, etc.
Despite the very good atmosphere and roots in one of the best soccer manager games On the Ball - World Cup Edition has its flaws, the biggest being the matches themselves. They are being played exactly the same way as in the original game, which worked fine there, but here, where you have the players available only for few matches in a year it would be far better to have more informations from the games or at least some statistics.
Overall an interesting project, based on great games, but when it comes to details On the Ball - World Cup Edition loses the quality and with time could be slightly disappointing.

In early 1990s there was a huge demand in Great Britain for soccer management games, which lead to a wave of half-baked products that could barely be called games. League Challenge was one of them.
