Classic German football manager that changed the genre by introducing some of the elements that are present in today games.
On the first glance Anstoss is not that different from other soccer managers - we take over Bundesliga team and face the opponents in local and international competitions. The player skills are described by a single value (between 1 and 10) plus form factor that modifies the main skill value. We have the basic management options, basic transfer options, basic training options. We cannot count on player details, player statistics or even match statistics. All of it sounds like typical German football manager, but Anstoss was in fact very different: first of all it had great atmosphere during the matches, events that take place inside and outside the club, random events that are sometimes quite silly, the media pressure and fans pressure through interviews and commentary during the game. In many ways Anstoss was precursor of a new trend - football managers that are fun to play and do not really care about details or how realistic the simulation is, which was refreshing approach, especially in case of German game producers.
Animations, that became trademark of Anstoss, show events on the field, random events build the atmosphere off the field, simple interface and simple player data - all of it put together created a great game that was fun even for people, who do not really like football. Anstoss was such success that English version of the game was produced (called On the Ball) and even additional game that allowed us to manage the national team. A really must-see game!
