German ice hockey manager from creators of Bundesliga Manager, one of the more inventive of early football manager games.
After success of their Bundesliga Manager Software 2000 tried to branch out of the football management genre, but their next production wasn’t actually that different - they made an ice hockey manager, called... wait for it... Eishockey Manager!
Eishockey Manager was basically Bundesliga Manager adapted for ice hockey: there are fewer positions for players, there is slightly different team selection, we improve the surroundings of our arena instead of improving stadium, but apart from that it was basically the same game. We have very similar economy screen, sponsorship deals screen, tables and team value screens, players are described in almost identical way, etc.
There were of course differences between them, but to be honest they were just details, the basics are the same. The players were described by just 3 parameters, there are only very basic match statistics (we only know the number of goals scored by the player and how many assists he has made), so it is hard to actually manage the team, because we have no data to base out decisions upon. We win some game, we lose some games, but there is virtually no way of telling which of the players was performing well and which one should be replaced.
Match engine was very similar to the Bundesliga Manager one - we just see animations of goal attempts with different endings to each situation, but still they don’t really give us any clues which player was to blame for lost goal or whose pass made it possible to score goal.
Overall Eishockey Manager was just low effort attempt to make some money on popularity of Bundesliga Manager - there were too few options available for people to enjoy the game.
