Classic soccer management game that created new standards of the genre - while simulating British professional division it gave the options to run youth team and simulated all the clubs plus option to build your own career.
Championship Manager was one of quite few retro soccer management games, but the options it offered were quite revolutionary. While the basic options were quite standard of the era - team selection, basic tactics, basic transfers - the new options were really amazing. First of all it was possible not only to choose any team in British professional divisions, but in fact during the game it was possible to switch those teams. While in other games if we were sacked the game simply ended in Championship Manager we could watch the game as spectator until new job offers will come up or during a good run in club we could have been offered position in another team and simply switch the side. That was possible due to fact that all the clubs were actually simulated (not only during the games against our team, but the whole time, including transfers). Another change was the youth team - although the players were only described by their name and talent level we could use youth team players in matches, thus discovering their potential in competition games. Also we could have arrange friendly games in pre-season month and play in European competitions (although the opponents were a bit too weak). Another interesting bit was transferring players to foreign clubs and they actually were available to one day come back to Great Britain.
Championship Manager was a new generation of soccer management games and still can be quite entertaining after all the years since premiere. Many options, fully simulated teams, career options and quick matches made it almost perfect game.
