Classic grand strategy that took the best elements of the board games and put together a truly remarkable computer game simulating World War 2 in the way that is challenging and entertaining at the same time.
Classic grand strategy game, Storm Across Europe, simulates the World War 2 from Fall 1939 until one of the sides of the conflict (Germany, Allies, Russia) will conquer the enemies. The basic scenario is a single player challenge to lead the Third Reich in the war, but two additional human players can control other two sides of the conflict. While the graphic side of the game is rather simple and sounds are non-existent the game has a lot to offer. Well, at least to strategy buffs - we control different aspects of our country, concentrating on the military aspects of the conflict. Of course we give orders to our armies, we resupply them with new units, but also control air force (bombers attacking enemy, fighters defending them and rockets or even atom bomb) as well as navy (from capital ships and raiders to U-Boats and landing crafts). Besides that we have to keep in mind that our industrial production has to be defended from enemy attacks, we have to distribute the garrisons to keep the control of the areas, we have to keep the navy patrols in the strategic points, etc.
The game does not look impressive and you can be fooled by the simplicity of the interface, but Storm Across Europe is one of the best strategy games in history (at least of its era) - challenging, entertaining, historically accurate and giving a lot of freedom to users. You can start by leaving Poland as a shield separating you from Russia and attack in the west or block potential attack from France and and make Russia your primary target - it is all up to you how you gonna deal with the war.
