German game that offered us chance to see how hard it is to break into the showbiz - yes, we became a movie producer and with limited budget we start our career.
Der Produzent was a German game that was putting us in charge of a movie production company that was making its first steps in the showbiz - with limited budget we can start our first movie by buying or ordering new script from a writer. After we got the script we have to hire a director, the main cast, someone to write a soundtrack and also hire a studio, where we will be filming our masterpiece.
All of it sounds rather interesting, but unfortunately those options lack any depth: we actually select a script, hire a writer or other people and that is where our influence as producer ends. We get the info when the movie is ready or that there are some delays in production, but we can’t influence the script in any way, once the movie gets through test screening we can’t in any way improve the movie if it gets poor reviews, we don’t have much influence on the marketing side (we only can learn how much we earned or lost on each of the movies). One of the elements that do change with time is our contacts book - we collect contacts to good actors and director, so we could try to hire them for our next production, but apart from that the game is unfortunately very repetitive and lacks any depth. The only thing that helps are the random events taking place, but soon we are back to repeating same things over and over again with each new production.
Overall a promising, but shallow game that, as usual in German productions, is sort of simulation rather than actual game: we have influence on rather small part of the events taking place, and to make things worse we take care mostly of the boring bits of film producer life (well, perhaps with the exception of interviews).
