Rocky surface and dense toxic atmosphere of planet Fractalus is a worst place to be stuck, especially when your fighter has just been shot down and you don’t really have much choice.

Large Earth spaceship have arrived to planet Fractalus orbit, where our race is about to take on the aliens called Jaggi. But just like it is with military raids something goes wrong and simple mission turns into nightmare. Aliens have prepared the laser guns that took down the first waves of fighters and while their pilots have survives now it is up to us to clean up that mess. Aboard the Valkyrie space fighter we have to descend to the planet and pick up the survived pilots. Luckily the tracking devices on their fighters are still in tact, so we can detect their locations on our radar and land nearby. It is important since the toxic atmosphere of Fractalus would not allow them to survive long outside of the cabins - their space suits would start to melt, so we have to land in the range of short run away from them.

But to reach them we have to take care of the laser guns set on the tops of the mountains that will shoot at as and the flashing discs that are gonna try to crash into us. Since our radar has limited range we have to cruise through deep gorges of the Fractalus and pick up the signals from the crashed fighters. But from time to time (on higher levels) we also will have to deal with... let’s just say Alien surprise.

On surface a very simple game, basically it is just that - rescuing pilots and dealing with enemy defense, but with randomly generated surface (using fractals, hence the planet name Fractalus) of the planet it can be played many times without being boring.

Rescue on Fractalus! trivia

George Lucas involvement
Game was published by Lucasfilm Games and George Lucas is credited for implementing two important elements in the game - the fact that we can actually shoot back at enemy and the alien surprise bit, which only proves that in 1980s Lucas actually had some great ideas and rises the question what the heck happened to him later...
