One of the most widespread successes among arcade games, Pac-Man was available on almost any platform available in 8-bit era.
Pac-Man is a maze chase arcade game, the player controls the main character through an enclosed maze that (usually) fills the whole screen. To finish a level the player tries to eat all of the dots placed in the maze while avoiding contact from the ghosts-like creatures. The level ends when Pac-Man eats all of the dots or loses all of the lives (meaning he is caught by the ghosts). But the gameplay has a twist - if Pac-Man east one of the power dots he becomes the hunter and the ghost are trying to run away from him.
Pac-Man was a huge success on arcade machines and later on other platforms, the simplicity of the rules and the elements made is a game ported to many devices other than Nintendo, where it gained even more popularity and inspired a lot of clones.
