Soviet Union in 1991, Captain Maksim Rukov of KGB is assigned a murder case that could turn the whole empire upside down.
As Captain Maksim Mikahilovich Rukov, a new officer in the KGB Department P, we are assigned a murder case that might reveal some deep problems even within the KGB, since the victim is a former officer of that service. It seems that after leaving the KGB, he became a private investigator and might have been somehow involved in a drug smuggling operation. The year is 1991, the Soviet Union is close to the collapse, the Department P is under scrutiny from the higher-ups, some of the KGB officers might be involved in criminal dealings, so you must thread very gently.
Party a spy story, partly a detective game, partly just a point-and-click game, KGB had not only a very original (and for most users exotic) setting of the Soviet Union, but also involved some mechanics that were original, but not necessarily in a good way. One of the most important ones was the time - it was moving forward even if you did nothing and just stood in one place, but this was not even the worst part of it. Some of the events that took place in the plot, took place at a particular time in a particular place, if you are not at the right spot when they do happen, you will miss them and thus will never be able to finish the game. How could you know where to be and when? There are some clues, but not always obvious, although mostly you must base your moves on experience (meaning trying the same parts of the game again and again).
The setting was original, the plot was intriguing, the gameplay was good enough, but the time mechanics and some decisions made the game very, very hard to play.
