Formula One Grand Prix retro game

racing gamessimulator gamessport games

One of the first racing games that was using real physics rules to simulate the car behaviour and was using early 3D graphics to give us the feeling of being in the middle of the action.

Geoff Crammond, creator of Formula One Grand Prix, had degrees in physics and engineering when he started his first racing game. He created one of the first games that were using real physics rules to simulate the behaviour of the car, which was a huge step forward in the genre. In Formula One Grand Prix we were able to change the car setup (wings, brakes, tyres, gears) and after each change we were able to see and feel the difference in car behaviour, which was one of the factors behind the success of the game. Using those options we could prepare different setup for each of the tracks and base them not on some default options, but based on our own skills and experience.

What is more the game not only offered all the Formula One tracks (used at that point in time) for test or single races, but also option to play the whole season. Another impressive option was that we could play as both drivers in our team - taking in turns control of the car after few laps. Action replay scene, the support for new players to use automatic gearbox, automatic brakes, best line visible on the track - Formula One Grand Prix had everything that you might need to get addicted.

One of the best games in history offering plenty of options and unprecedented realistic feeling during the race.
