The title is self-explanatory, but just in case it is not, Fighter Bomber is a flight simulator. Yes, 1990s were not subtle times when it comes to game titles.
As you can guess from the blindingly obvious title, in Fighter Bomber, you will be in charge of a fighter bomber airplane. There was even some sort of backstory that you take part in Strategic Air Command Bombing and Navigation Competition (an exercise existing in the real life), which... basically changes very little in the gameplay.
The machines you can choose from are F-111 Aardvark, F-15 Eagle, F-4 Phantom, AJ-37 Viggen, MiG-27 Flogger, and two variants of Tornado (German and British). There are quite a few missions to choose from, usually concentrating on the bombing side of the business, although there were some exceptions. The number of weapons you can select is also quite impressive, from bombs and air-to-ground missiles (both guided and unguided) to air-to-air missiles. And yes, you will need those AA missiles when the fighters will come to visit.
Overall, the game was a bit too simple, especially when it comes to graphics - flat surfaces, simple vector objects, very few actual objects not related to your mission, the cockpit view left a lot to the imagination. The range of planes and opponents was a nice touch, but Fighter Bomber was just a quite simple flight simulator. Back in a day, it was not a bad game, but the competition in that genre was already a few steps ahead. So, it was an interesting product, but hardly a ground-breaking one.
