Simple arcade game that id set in different reality most probably would never make much impact - control American fighter during operations on the Pacific islands during World War 2.
Simple arcade game set during World War 2 - you begin aboard an American aircraft carrier that just arrived to a Pacific island occupied by the Japanese. Using slightly improved F6F Hellcat (or rather magically improved) you can attack different types of targets. At the beginning the enemies have only huts and AA guns, but with each level there is more of them and you will stumble upon their warships. Luckily our Hellcat is capable of carrying rockets, bombs and torpedoes, so we are prepared for every opponent forces. But in reality Hellcats were only fighters and in Wings of Fury you also have to make use of that part of their capabilities - once in a while Japanese will send their torpedo bombers to attack your carrier, so you have to be on a lookout to intercept them before they will sink your ship.
Wings of Fury is set during World War 2, which is one of the main factors behind its success. It sounds silly, but imagine that you control a space ship and destroy enemy bases on some planet... Sounds like 90% of the arcade game you have ever played, right? The reason is simple - while Wings of Fury tries to simulate the reality of World War 2 it puts limitations to your plane, your ammo and your enemies. You don’t have lasers, you don’t have magical bombs that blast everything on the island in one go - the range of impact of your bombs and rockets is limited, so you have to be accurate, your plane needs oil and fuel to stay in the air, etc. Creators of Wings of Fury balanced the reality and fun to provide us with the title that is surprisingly addictive and entertaining.
