Welcome to the cutthroat world of modern train-spotting - grab your thermos, your pen, your notebook and... spot the sh@t out of those trains.

Train spotting was (and it is not impossible that it still is for some) a hobby, in which grown(-ish) men place themselves in special places, where they can observe trains passing by. It could be a train station, it could be a bridge or just any place quite close to the railway tracks and... they spot the trains. I know, it sounds silly, but there is a bigger picture in all of this - they don’t just spot them, they also write down the individual numbers of those trains. Wait, but there’s more! I mean, not much more, but... you can bring sandwiches with you. And some drinks. And... I know, I’m grasping at straws here, but train spotting isn’t really that interesting. Have I mentioned the sandwiches?

The game Sensible Train Spotting was itself developed as a sort of joke - Sensible Software made their mark on the market by publishing games like Sensible Soccer, which was one of the most successful games of the genre (at least on Commodore Amiga) or Cannon Fodder, which also was mostly an action game. Sensible Train Spotting was made in contrast to their other titles - it was supposed to be boring, pointless and completely detached from their other productions. And in that sense, they succeeded beyond their wildest dreams.

So what was the game all about? You sat at the train station and watch trains go by. If you spot one that carries the individual number that is on your card, you cross it out. And that’s about it. On next level there is slightly more traffic, so spotting the numbers could be a bit more challenging, but that is all the fun that you can have in this game.
