Futuristic sport, in which you try to put the ball between the ever decreasing and constantly moving goal posts.
Ballblazer is an arcade game set on a chequered playfield, where you are in control of a fast moving craft and try to beat your opponent in a ball game. The ball levitates above the field, and you can take over the ball by driving into it. Once you are in the possession of the ball, all you have to do is place it between the goal posts. With each goal scored you get the points, whoever gets five points, wins the match.
The rules are simple, one player tries to score the goal, the other tries to stop him, by taking over the control of the ball. With each goal scored, the posts are put closer together, so you have to drive closer to the goal or take a bigger risk trying to score from the distance. The posts are constantly moving along the border of the field and once the opponent takes over the ball, your vehicle is turned 90 degrees, so you could try to win the ball.
Ballblazer is a prime example of a game so simple that it is hard not to like it. It could be played as a single player (vs computer opponent) or player vs player. The action is dynamic, the sounds played a big part in the success of the game, they make the action feel even more dynamic and goals scored even more satisfying. The graphic side was not astonishing, but it did not really matter when the gameplay is fast and entertaining.
