Operation Chastise was British air attack on German dams in Ruhr Valley during World War 2. The story behind it is very interesting - the attack was difficult due to dams being especially tricky targets to hit. British inventor Barnes Wallis came up with the idea of "bouncing bomb" that would "skip" on the surface of the water over the anti-torpedo nets and drop down to the bottom while reaching the dam. It was complicated solution, but the only Allies had to slow down the German production in the industrial centre of their country. Wallis tested on models different options, but the only effective way to destroy the dam was to cause explosion at the base of the installation.

Dambusters (title taken from nickname attached to the squadron that carried out Operation Chastise) was an arcade game based on those events, although due to arcade nature of the game it is far from being in any way realistic or even trying to be any sort of simulation. It is horizontal scrolling arcade game, in which we steer our Lancaster bomber during the flight towards the dam, but we only control altitude (down and up), fire the front guns at incoming enemy fighters (fire) and drop the bouncing bomb (left).

A very simple game that offers very little interactions with the game elements.
